Migrating from an Evaluation Version to a Distribution Version

The evaluation versions of the libraries cannot be used in production! They will cease to work a few months after the evaluation started and need to be replaced!

Once you have become a licensed developer of the yFiles libraries, you get access to download the full versions of the yFiles for HTML library. Also, you will receive a license file in a separate step.

The download package is almost identical to the evaluation package that you know from your evaluation, but differ in two important aspects:

  • They only work properly in conjunction with your development and deployment license files. They will not work with evaluation license files.
  • Unlike evaluation versions of the library, they will not cease to work with a proper license.

To comply with the evaluation license, you need to delete all evaluation version files from your systems. The evaluation versions may not be used for further development or distribution, and they will not work with your perpetual license files. The full version packages contain replacement files for all files in the corresponding evaluation packages, except, of course, the evaluation license file.

Error Messages

If an evaluation version of the library is used with a full license or if an evaluation license is used with the full version of the library, yFiles shows a license error with one of the following error messages

  • "A regular license cannot be used with an evaluation library."
  • "An evaluation license cannot be used with a non-evaluation library."

Checklist: Switching to the Full Version

As a licensed customer, you should:

  • have obtained your new license file and download information for the full library
  • download the package for the full version of the library
  • remove all files from the evaluation packages from your systems, most importantly the redistributable
  • put the files from the full version where you previously had the evaluation files
  • add your new license file to this setup: use the development version during development and the deployment version for the deployment of your applications, respectively.
